Thibaut Courtois made his expected return to the Chelsea team to face Stoke as the Blues attempted to be top of the Barclays Premier League table at Christmas.
The Belgian goalkeeper had missed the last two games with a muscular injury but returned to the team in place of Petr Cech while Branislav Ivanovic, Gary Cahill, Willian and Diego Costa all came into the starting line-up after the Capital One Cup win over Derby, with John Obi Mikel making his 250th start.
Stoke boss Mark Hughes made two changes to his team after the draw against Crystal Palace with Marc Muniesa drafted into defence and Marko Arnautovic replacing Mame Diouf.
