Manchester City have eyes on a treble and the FA Cup remains on their radar following a comfortable win over Newcastle United in the quarter-finals on Saturday evening. Newcastle have not hit the heights of last season, and they were no match for Pep Guardiola's City. Bernardo Silva helped himself to two goals in the first half as the home side enjoyed a dominant victory.

'The king of the competition' - Guardiola on facing Madrid again in the Champions League

Manchester City became the first side in history to reach six successive FA Cup semi-finals as a Bernardo Silva double saw them stay on course for historic back-to-back trebles with a polished 2-0 home win over Newcastle United.
Sitting a point behind Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League title chase and into the UEFA Champions League last eight to face Real Madrid, Pep Guardiola's side showed they are in no mood to relinquish the FA Cup with deflected goals putting them in charge of this quarter-final before the break.
Bernardo's shot on 13 minutes came off Dan Burn and looped over visiting goalkeeper Martin Dubravka for the first on 13 minutes before another Silva effort on 31 minutes flew beyond Dubravka via the head of the unfortunate Sven Botman.
Eddie Howe's side's best chance of the match came when City 'keeper Stefan Ortega was forced to pull off a brilliant diving stop to repel Alexander Isak's volley on 37 minutes, but they lacked the finishing power to mount a comeback.
Newcastle last won at the Etihad Stadium in the League Cup a decade ago, and never really threatened to alter such a horrendous run of results that has seen them lose 16 of their past 17 trips to City's ground.
They last reached an FA Cup semi-final in the 2004/05 season.
The semi-finals of this year's tournament will be staged at Wembley Stadium on the weekend of April 20.

Talking Point: Slick City will take some stopping

It is difficult to see which team will stop Manchester City when they are in this mood. The prospect of back-to-back trebles is certainly looking within touching distance such is the strength and quality of their squad.
Even without the injured Kevin De Bruyne and goalkeeper Ederson, they still finished miles ahead of a Newcastle side who produced a game but limited display in trying to upset Pep Guardiola's European champions.
A return of only two shots at the home goal was Newcastle's worst in any competition since 2015, with City knowing how to see out the match such is their class in keeping the ball for long periods of time.
They are like a well-oiled machine with every part of their squad knowing what to do when they are called upon. And they also look hungry for more trophies in the business end of this campaign.

Player of the Match: Phil Foden (Manchester City)

Some superb performances from the City players - including exceptional displays by Rodri, Jeremy Doku and Bernardo Silva - but Phil Foden gets the nod with his creativity a joy to behold for Guardiola's treble-chasing side.

Match Highlights

13' GOAL! (BERNARDO SILVA) CITY 1-0 NEWCASTLE Well, it was coming and it duly arrives as Rodri feeds Bernardo Silva, whose shot spins off Dan Burn inside the box and loops over Martin Dubravka and into the net. City with the vital first goal in this quarter-final.
31' GOAL! (BERNARDO SILVA) CITY 2-0 NEWCASTLE Well, there we go. It is two for Silva and a 2-0 lead for the home side. This time his shot flies into the net off Botman. No chance for the 'keeper with the deflection. Poor defending really. And has the goal has been awarded to the unfortunate Botman?
37' ALMOST ONE BACK FOR NEWCASTLE Brilliant move by the visitors. Murphy picks out Burn with a fine cross. His header down is met by Isak, but the volley at goal is stopped by Ortega diving how to his left. Brilliant stop, but Isak will feel he should have scored.
45+1' NEWCASTLE HANGING ON FOR DEAR LIFE Doku sees an effort deflect wide by Martin Dubravka before Ruben Dias sees a header well held by Dubravka. Newcastle will take 2-0 at the break you suspect.
52' ALMOST A BRILLIANT THIRD FOR HOME SIDE City looked in a spot of bother at the back, but they just play their way delightfully through the visitors before Haaland races up the pitch to fire an effort inches wide. Super piece of play.
