Merry Christmas Eve! Sir Alex Ferguson is back involved at Manchester United and there may be bad news for PSG in the transfer market. It's Monday's Paper Round.

Ferguson back at United

We begin with an exclusive from The Sun which says that Sir Alex Ferguson is back at Manchester United. It's far from a full-time role but Ferguson acted as a consultant when the club fired Jose Mourinho and chose to hire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Mike Phelan. The report adds that Solskjaer plans to talk regularly with his former boss during his time in charge at Old Trafford.
Paper Round's view: This is a good story for United fans yet a lot of it seems relatively obvious. When Mourinho was fired it makes sense that they would consult the greatest manager in their history, and indeed one of the greatest of all time; it would have arguably been more of a story if they hadn't spoken to him. And by the same degree given the impact of Ferguson on Solskjaer's career it makes sense the new United interim boss would be in contact with his old manager.

PSG could be forced to sell Mbappe or Neymar

There are various reports on Sunday evening that suggest that Ligue 1 champions PSG could be forced to sell either Kylian Mbappe or Neymar in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations. There is no indication as to where either player could move except for a suggestion PSG may lean towards to keeping Mbappe given his youth and domestic status, as well as potential interest from Barcelona in Neymar.
Paper Round's view: These are very tentative reports at this stage so it is far from certain but it is something that has been mooted before. Given the relative outlay on both players it would hardly be surprising to see PSG forced to sell one of their superstars. It also wouldn't be too surprising to see them side with Mbappe over Neymar. One of the storylines of 2018 has been the emergence of Mbappe into one of the global superstars of the game.

Ozil wanted by Turkish club

We now have a story concerning Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil. It contains quotes from Istanbul Basaksehir president Goksel Gumusdag who has said that his team are interested in signing Ozil if the German international were to leave the Gunners in the near future.
Paper Round's view: This is one of those classic 'of course you do' stories. Basaksehir have been one of the revelations of the season in Europe thus far and they are currently six points clear at the top of the table. Nevertheless they are still a considerable step below Arsenal for now and it would be a massive jump for Ozil.

Defoe heading for Bournemouth exit

Jermain Defoe is not playing regularly at Bournemouth and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers could give him a way out in January according to reports. Rodgers wanted him in the summer but Celtic couldn't afford the forward's wages; however, now Bournemouth might be willing to pay the majority of Defoe's pay-packet. Andy Carroll is an alternative option for Celtic.
Paper Round's view: Celtic need attacking options given Leigh Griffiths' situation and on a short-term basis at least both of these players would make sense. They're experienced and in the short term they should be able to come in and make a difference. That will give Celtic time to approach a younger player who can be the long-term solution.
