Anthony Martial, Raphael Varane and more - Five Manchester United stars whose contracts expire in 2024

Anthony Martial is one of several Manchester United first-team players whose contracts expire in the summer. There are a number of high-profile names such as Raphael Varane and Aaron Wan-Bissaka who may not have their contracts extended, meaning they could leave in the summer for nothing. We take a look at the top players at United whose time may soon be up.

Ten Hag 'really looking forward' to working with new co-owners Ineos

Manchester United have their work cut out with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe as they decide which of several key players will leave the club on free transfers.
There are a number of senior squad members who can start negotiating for a pre-contract with a club outside of England, or who may simply decide to run down their deals and wait to see what their options are in the summer.
We look at the biggest names who could be on their way out, or who may still land a new deal under manager Erik ten Hag.

Anthony Martial

The 28-year-old appeared set for the exit when he spent the last of half of the 2021/22 season on loan with Spanish side Sevilla, and it appeared he had lost the trust of Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before him.
The next year saw a marginal improvement in his performances, under Ten Hag, scoring nine goals, but few expected him to stay on. However, injuries to United’s front line has meant that the club have had to rely on the services of the French forward when he has been fit.
Nineteen appearances have been rewarded with just two goals, suggesting that he may be allowed to move on in the summer, if not sooner.

Raphael Varane

Raphael Varane, 30 has yet to play more than 25 Premier League games in a season for United since his big-money move from Real Madrid, and at times Jonny Evans has been preferred to the French international defender even when they were both fit. Evans, 35, signed on a short-term contract, could also be on his way next year.
Reports have suggested that Varane could be tempted by a move back to Real, and given he is likely on significant wages, he could be another of the older players that the club decide to let go if they do not activate their 12-month extension clause.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

The English defender’s contract runs until 2024, but there is the option to extend that deal for a further 12 months. For now that looks like the most pragmatic option at Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old has continued to struggle with his offensive contributions and both he and Diogo Dalot share right-back duties with no clear winner under Ten Hag. A return to Crystal Palace has been suggested, but another year at United could give him one last chance to convince.

Sofyan Amrabat & Sergio Reguilon

Both Amrabat and Reguilon arrived on loan in the summer as United left their business late. Amrabat was supposed to be a dynamic presence who would recreate his World Cup form for Morocco at United, while Reguilon was brought in as cover for the injured Luke Shaw.
Reports suggest that Amrabat has already been marked for the exit, while Reguilon has done little wrong while being unspectacular. Amrabat is set to see out his loan deal, while it remains to be seen if Tottenham want to recall Reguilon in January.
