Folarin Balogun's long affiliation with Arsenal is at an end after the Gunners agreed to sell the striker to Monaco on a five-year deal. Balogun enjoyed a breakthrough season last term while on loan at Stade de Reims, attracting a successful £34.4 million bid from their Ligue 1 rivals. Monaco have completed the signing of striker Folarin Balogun from Arsenal on a five-year deal.
The 22-year-old was a revelation in Ligue 1 last season during a loan spell at Stade de Reims, scoring 21 league goals.
That return – bettered only by Kylian Mbappe, Alexandre Lacazette and Jonathan David - convinced Monaco to swoop with a deal reportedly worth €40 million (£34.4m).
Monaco said in a statement that Balogun has signed a deal to June 2028.
The striker joined Arsenal aged 10 but leaves with just 10 senior appearances to his name and two in the Premier League.
He spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship, scoring three goals.
Balogun then enjoyed a breakout campaign last term, netting 22 goals in 39 games across all competitions for Reims.
He earned his first United States cap in June 2023 in the CONCACAF Nations League semi-finals, before scoring his first goal in a 2-0 win over Mexico in the final.
“We thank Folarin for his contribution to Arsenal, through our Academy into the first team, and wish him the best of health and happiness in his new chapter at AS Monaco,” said an Arsenal statement.
Balogun could make his debut on Saturday when Monaco host Lens in Ligue 1.
He becomes the club's fifth summer signing following the arrivals of Denis Zakaria, Mohammed Salisu, Wilfried Singo and Philipp Kohn.
The Monegasques have got off to a flying start to the season and sit top of the table after picking up seven points in three games.
