Harry Kane not ruling out breaking Alan Shearer's Premier League record after Bayern Munich - 'Plenty of football left'

Harry Kane hit all the right notes in his official unveiling as a Bayern Munich player after leaving Tottenham. Alan Shearer may be rejoicing after seeing the England captain leave for Bavaria, but the 30-year-old has not given up on breaking his all-time Premier League goalscoring haul just yet. Kane's immediate focus is on winning trophies with Bayern, but is not ruling out a return to England.
Harry Kane has not ruled out the possibility of breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League goalscoring record, despite leaving Tottenham to join Bayern Munich.
Kane may have swapped England’s top flight for the Bundesliga, but sounded a warning to the legendary Newcastle striker who thought his record haul of 260 Premier League goals may have been safe.
Speaking in a press conference unveiling Kane as a Bayern player, he said: “It's always going to be a tough decision; I was at Tottenham for 19 years of my life, so everyone knows the club is connected with me and my heart. But ultimately, I'm a professional and I've always pushed myself to my limits and I just felt like the time was right.
“I needed to be playing at the highest level, in the Champions League, trying to win titles every year. When I thought about it and Bayern got in touch, it was a decision I wanted to make.
“People will talk about the record and Shearer, but I've got plenty of football left in my career. For now, it's about trying to achieve things here and trying to push myself and the team to try and reach new levels with this club. That's all my focus is on right now.”
Despite plundering 213 Premier League goals himself, Kane is still waiting to win his first major trophy.
He explained this was the decisive factor in choosing to leave North London for the reigning German champions. The carrot of this season’s UEFA Champions League final being held at Wembley was also an added incentive for success.
"I've always wanted to push my limits and improve, and see how far that can take me,” he added.
“Ultimately, I wanted to be playing at the highest level, to be playing in the Champions League, fighting for titles every year. Coming to Bayern, one of the biggest clubs in the world, gives me that opportunity.
“It is still quite a way away but for it [Champions League final] to be at Wembley is exciting. I joined this club to have a good chance of winning the Champions League but for it to be at Wembley is amazing. Hopefully we can achieve that."
The 30-year-old received a baptism of fire after making his debut from the bench in Bayern’s 3-0 DFB Supercup defeat to RB Leipzig on Saturday.
Despite winning the past 11 league titles, Kane believes the result proves how nothing can be taken for granted with Bayern clinging onto their domestic supremacy.
He said: "I spent my whole career in England and the Premier League so it may take a bit of adapting to get used to a new league. I'm playing against different teams.
“As you saw yesterday with Leipzig, there are some great teams in this league and it is going to be a real challenge. I know people expect Bayern to win the league every year, but I think teams are improving and it is getting tougher.
"For me it is about settling in, getting as comfortable as possible and understanding the different teams and how I need to adapt."
