After injuries to both senior left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, Manchester United made their fifth signing of the summer transfer window when they confirmed the loan signing of Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon. The Spaniard will provide cover at least until the winter transfer window opens in January next year. United had originally attempted to sign Marc Cucurella from Chelsea.

Manchester United have completed the signing of Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon on a short-term loan.
The 26-year-old Spaniard has arrived as cover for Luke Shaw, who is out of action with an injury that could reportedly keep him on the sidelines until November.
Diogo Dalot was used in the position against Nottingham Forest at the weekend as Tyrell Malacia is also out injured, and Jonny Evans’ future remains unclear after signing a short-term contract over the summer.
“In life you have to be ready for everything and the chance to represent this great club with such an illustrious history is one that I could not turn down," Reguilon told the club's website.
“Having spoken to the manager, I know what he needs from me, and I am ready to play my part in helping the team to achieve success.
“I know that I can contribute to Manchester United this season; I am ready to fight for this group and show everyone my qualities.”
United had been linked with a move for another Spanish defender, Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, but the two sides could not agree terms on a deal, leading United to move on to Reguilon.
Cucurella played for Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, meaning he would be cup-tied for the competition, and the London side had wanted a £7 million fee, which would potentially complicate any further transfers for United as they look to stay within Financial Fair Play limitations.
United had also wanted a break clause in the winter for any deal should they have felt they no longer needed cover.
Reguilon had first been linked with a move to Old Trafford in 2020 when Jose Mourinho was manager of the club, but he instead joined Tottenham from Real Madrid.
He is the second arrival at United on deadline day following the signing of Turkey goalkeeper Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce for £4.3m on a four-year contract.
That brings the total number of signings made by United in the transfer window to six after the arrival of Andre Onana, Mason Mount, Rasmus Hojlund, and Evans. They have also been linked with a move for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
