The reign of new Manchester City boss Mark Hughes began with a comfortable 2-0 victory over part-timers EB Streymur of the Faroe Islands in their UEFA Cup first qualifying round first leg.

Martin Petrov and Didi Hamann scored first-half volleys to settle any nerves as City dominated the match in front of 6,000 fans - including around 200 who had travelled from Manchester - inside the national stadium.
Hughes named a very strong side against part-timers who are top of the Faroes league, handing £19 million record-signing Jo his debut, with Micah Richards and Nedum Onuoha making their comebacks from injury.
It took City just eight minutes to all-but end any hopes of an upset when Petrov smashed home the opening goal of Hughes' reign in charge.
Stephen Ireland's ball sent Darius Vassell away down the right channel and when his cross was dummied by Michael Johnson, Petrov slammed the ball into the far top corner.
Jo showed plenty of willing to get involved in the match, using his lanky frame to hold the ball up impressively and showing an encouraging willingness to get on the end of Petrov's dangerous crosses from the left.
And City were two ahead on 28 minutes. Petrov again was involved, seeing his corner only half-cleared to the edge of the box where Hamman volleyed it firmly past Torgard with the outside of his left foot.
City took their foot off the gas a little after the break, with Hughes taking the chance to replace Jo with young Welsh striker Ched Evans, who this week signed a new three-year contract with the club.
City take on Hamburg in a friendly in Germany on July 26, before the second leg against EB at Barnsley's Oakwell ground on Thursday July 31.
