Chelsea to face Ajax in Women’s Champions League quarter-finals, on course for Barcelona semi-final

Chelsea will take on Ajax in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League and could meet holders Barcelona in the semi-finals. The Spanish side will have to negotiate a last-eight tie with Norwegian side Brann. Elsewhere, record winners Lyon have been drawn against Benfica, meaning there could be an all-French semi-final, as Paris Saint-Germain will play Hacken.

Chelsea are on course for a Women’s Champions League semi-final with holders Barcelona, after being drawn against Ajax in the last eight.

Emma Hayes’ side, who came through the group stage unbeaten, will travel to Amsterdam for the first leg before hosting the Dutch side.

Barca will have to get past Norwegian side Brann before what could be a blockbuster semi-final.

In the other half of the draw, there could be an all-French last-four clash if the two biggest clubs in D1 Arkema can make their way through.

Record champions Lyon, who have eight European titles, will face Benfica with the winners to take on either Paris Saint-Germain or BK Hacken of Sweden.

The quarter-final ties will be played on March 19-20 and March 27-28, with the semi-finals to take place over April 20-21 and April 27-28, ahead of the final in Bilbao on May 25.

Hayes is hoping to sign off 13 years in charge of Chelsea by delivering a first Women’s Champions League trophy, having finished as runners up to Barcelona in the 2021 final. The 47-year-old is leaving to take over the USA women's team at the end of the season.

Led by Caroline Graham Hansen, Barca look to be the team to beat having won five and drawn one of their six group matches, though Lyon have two of the joint-top goalscorers in Ada Hegerberg and Kadidiatou Diani.

Also on five goals are Chelsea’s injured forward Sam Kerr and Barca’s Salma Paralluelo.
