United States Women's National Team captain Lindsey Horan was on hand for a vital equaliser against the Netherlands on Thursday in the 2023 Fifa Women's World Cup. For much of the match it had appeared that the US would suffer a rare defeat, and after the match, Horan admitted there was much to improve upon in the first half, though they almost claimed victory through Alex Morgan.

Lack of England goals 'not a concern' for Greenwood ahead of Denmark test

Lindsey Horan admitted her USA side were "disappointed” after narrowly avoiding an upset against the Netherlands on Thursday.
USWNT captain Horan scored on the hour mark after Jil Roord had put the Netherlands on course for a famous win at the Women’s World Cup.
The new Manchester City player scored with an impressive effort from the edge of the box, but the United States levelled Horan with heading in from a corner.
The Americans and the Netherlands met in the 2019 final, and for a long time the USA were frustrated in front of goal, as Julie Ertz and Trinity Rodman went close.
Alex Morgan also had what would have been the winner ruled out for offside.
They remain top of Group E with four points after two matches, the same tally as the Netherlands, who are in second spot on goal difference.
"We performed brilliantly and at times it was really fantastic," said Netherlands coach Andries Jonker after the match. "You have to be happy with 1-1.
"These games are battles from the first second to the last. The only thing you can say is that women's football has evolved incredibly.
"We're there, along with the US, and I'm very satisfied with that."
Horan said: "I think the first half, we could be a little disappointed in how we played but I think we fixed things right away,.
"The pressure that we got on, the amount of chances and opportunities that came from it - I'm so proud of the team and their response."
The USA next play Portugal on Tuesday, and the Netherlands play Vietnam in Dunedin at the same time.
