The 2023 Women's World Cup is progressing at pace, and Morocco secured their first win when edging out South Korea in Adelaide on Sunday. After being humbled 6-0 by Germany in their opening game of the competition, Morocco revived their hopes of qualification from Group H thanks to an early goal from Ibtissam Jraidi. Morocco take on Colombia in their final game of the group.

‘A huge source of pride’ - Morocco savour first-ever World Cup win

Morocco kept their 2023 Women’s World Cup hopes alive with a 1-0 win over South Korea.
The win moved Morocco on to three points from two matches, following their heavy loss to Germany in the opening game, while Korea remain on zero points and have only a mathematical chance of reaching the knockout stages.
Morocco’s first taste of World Cup football was a chastening one, as Germany put six goals past them, but they bounced back in Adelaide with Ibtissam Jraidi netting the country’s first goal in the competition.
In another first, defender Nouhaila Benzina was handed a start for Morocco and she became the first player to wear a hijab in World Cup competition.
The only goal of the game came early on, with Jraidi getting in front of her marker in the sixth minute and glancing home Hanane Ait El Haj’s excellent cross.

Morocco were dominant and the only surprise was that they did not add to their solitary goal.
Korea improved as the match progressed, but they lacked any sort of attacking threat.
Moroccan, and Korean, eyes will turn to the match between Germany and Colombia later on Sunday.
A win for Germany - or a draw - would eliminate Korea, while it would also set up a winner-take-all clash between Morocco and Colombia in the final game of Group H.
