Fernando Alonso last night unleashed a sensational attack on Formula One rival Michael Schumacher, saying that the German driver will retire from racing as the most unsporting driver in world championship history.
The world champion's sensational blast came in an interview with Spanish radio station Marca one day after Schumacher announced his intention to quit racing at the end of the year.
And the 25-year-old Renault driver even compared him to disgraced footballer Zinedine Zidane, who was sent off in his last match for headbutting an opponent.
Alonso said: "Michael is the man with the most sanctions and the most unsporting driver in the history of Formula One.
"Zidane retired with more glory than Schumacher, but I can still see that he has been the fastest driver for the last 10 years, and racing against him has been an honour."
Alonso's relationship with Schumacher soured over the weekend when he was dropped to 10th on the grid for the Italian Grand Prix for blocking the Ferrari driver's team-mate Felipe Massa in qualifying.
His team boss Flavio Briatore got himself in hot water at Monza, claiming the sport's governing body the FIA had handed the title to Schumacher by issuing the penalty.
But Alonso, who still holds a two-point-lead over the seven-time world champion, disagrees and thinks he can still win the world title.
"I don't agree with Flavio. They haven't given the title to Schumacher already. It's true there have been a lot of decisions against some and in favour of other but that's it."
