Giedo van der Garde will make his debut at the wheel of Sauber's Formula 1 car when he drives in Friday practice for this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix.
The Dutchman, left without a racing seat after competing with Caterham during his rookie season in 2013, joined the Swiss squad as one of its reserves for '14.
He will drive the Ferrari-powered C33 in place of Esteban Gutierrez, who will return to the cockpit in practice two.
Van der Garde will also be driving the car on day two of the post-race test that takes place in Bahrain on April 8-9.
Russian Sergey Sirotkin will drive for Sauber on the opening day of the test in order to secure his Superlicence.
