British GP set for Thursday fan day

Following discussions with F1 chiefs, Silverstone's bosses have got approval to allow fans in to the pits for a close up look at the cars and team preparations before the July 6 weekend.

Richard Phillips, Silverstone's managing director, said: "We've spoken to Bernie [Ecclestone], and he has confirmed that it is okay.

"We have considered doing something like this before, and we are delighted that it is going to happen this year."

Silverstone is still finalising the arrangements for the fan day, but it hopes that it will attract more than 10,000 spectators.
