Fans, pundits and fellow drivers have taken to social media to laud Fernando Alonso.

Alonso announced that he would retire from Formula One come the end of the current season.

The 37-year-old, a two-time world champion, will bring the curtain down on a 17-year F1 career at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November.
