Mark Webber topped the charts in a delayed final practice session as the Australian clocked 1:17.895 in changing conditions in Montreal, Canada.
The session was cut in half to just 30 minutes after marshals elected to mend a damaged barrier.
Webber’s time was pretty immaterial as the leaderboard revolved in the dying stages with a dry line belatedly emerging on the damp track.
Adrian Sutil continued Force India's impressive weekend by grabbing second, three tenths back, with Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso third and fourth respectively.
Despite having the session dramatically reduced, many drivers chose to remain in the confines of their garage unwilling to risk the damp Montreal circuit.
It was left to the so-called midfield teams to set the early pace with Sauber’s Estaban Gutierrez and Williams’ Valtteri Bottas catching the eye with some controlled driving in the wet.
A flurry of late laps completely altered the session’s complexion with the Mercedes and Ferraris in particular looking strong as the track dried rapidly.
But it was the Red Bull of Webber who had the final say as he dipped below 1:18 to set the fastest time of the session and hand him a big confidence boost ahead of qualifying.
