Ide was forced to quit Formula One after the sports governing body, the FIA, revoked his license after pitching Midland Racing's Christijan Albers into a multiple roll at the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola.
Former Renault F1 test driver Franck Montagny was called up to compete at the European Grand Prix before being given and additional two races to Monaco and now an extra three outings that will take the Frenchman up to the American Grand Prix at Indianapolis.
However, team boss Aguri Suzuki remains adamant that his all-Japanese team should remain exactly that and has now called up Yamamoto to run the official third car before taking over the second race seat alongside compatriot Takuma Sato from the French Grand Prix - a race at which a new car is expected to make its debut.
Yamamoto has already been awarded his Formula One Super License thanks to his outing with Jordan at last year's Japanese Grand Prix. The 24-year old completed the mandatory 300km during a test with Jordan prior to Suzuka before impressing in his role as the Friday driver at the Grand Prix.
"I am very happy to be coming back into Formula One with Super Aguri F1 Team and I would like to thank everyone who has supported me," Yamamoto said. "I will try to do my best in my new role as SAF1 Team third driver and give the team good feedback from my time in the car."
His return to Formula One has been made possible by Kondo Racing - the team for which he was competing in Formula Nippon and Super GT - accepting Super Aguri's request to join their team.
