The Ryder Cup is looming into focus, with the clash between Team Europe and the United States taking place in Rome later this year. Shane Lowry is likely to play a leading role on Luke Donald's side and he has urged the rest of the contenders to stand up and be counted in support of star men Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy. Lowry will be in action at the Hero Cup this week.

Shane Lowry has stressed the importance of Team Europe providing adequate support to Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm at this year’s Ryder Cup.
World No. 1 McIlroy and Rahm will be front and centre of Europe’s challenge to wrestle the Ryder Cup back from the United States in Rome this autumn.
McIlroy had a superb spell in 2022, with the only thing missing being a major, while Rahm highlighted his quality by opening the year with victory in the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
That win saw Rahm come from seven shots back on the final day in Hawaii to down Collin Morikawa, a likely key figure for Zach Johnson’s United States team.
As good as McIlroy and Rahm are, they will not be able to take down the defending champions on their own and Lowry wants the supporting cast to stand up.
"The two best players in the world are European players at the minute, I feel with Jon and Rory,” Lowry said. “It's up to us, the rest of the lads to get our game to a level where we are good enough to win the Ryder Cup at the end of the year.”
Lowry is likely to play a leading part in Luke Donald’s European team, and it would be a shock were the Irishman not to play his way onto the team by right.
Should he need a captain’s pick, he will get the chance to impress Donald at this week’s Hero Cup.
The event sees a Continental Europe side captained by Francesco Molinari take on GB & Ireland side led by Tommy Fleetwood.
Lowry is looking forward to the occasion, and he will lead the team out in the morning fourballs against Thomas Pieters and Alex Noren at Abu Dhabi Golf Club on Friday.
"Obviously, I want to be a part of Luke's team in Rome, and I feel like if this gives me any little bit of an edge in Rome if I'm there, I need to be here playing here,” Lowry said.
Second out for Continental Europe are Thomas Detry and Antoine Rozner against Tyrrell Hatton and Jordan Smith, before Victor Perez and Guido Migliozzi go up against Callum Shinkwin and Matt Wallace.
Moliari will be in the fourth game out alongside Nicolai Hojgaard against Ewen Ferguson and Richard Mansell.
Seamus Power and Robert MacIntyre will bring up the rear for GB&I against Sepp Straka and Adrian Meronk.
