American Simone Biles has become the most decorated gymnast of all time.
She won her 21st World Championship gold medal on Friday, beating Brazilian defending champion Rebeca Andrade by 1.633 points in the individual all-around competition to etch her name into history.
The 26-year-old scored 58.399 points across the balance beam, floor, vault and uneven bars in Antwerp on Friday, the same city where she won her first as a 16-year-old ten years ago.
Shilese Jones, Biles’ teammate, settled for bronze medal with 56.332 points.
Biles also won gold in the team category, her 20th gold, earlier in the championships to equal the record.
She now holds the record as the most decorated gymnast in history, across both men and women, overtaking legendary Belarusian Vitaly Scherbo.
She has 34 medals overall, 27 of which have come at the World Championships - 21 gold, three silver and three bronze.
Biles has also dominated at the Olympic Games in recent years, winning four gold medals at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro in the team, all-around, vault and floor exercise disciplines, and a bronze medal in the balance beam.
Four years later she picked up a silver medal in the team category at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 as well as another bronze in the balance beam, before she withdrew from the Games due to mental and physical struggles.
With two gold medals in the bag this year, Biles looks strong heading into Paris 2024.
