July 2 (The Sports Xchange) - Philadelphia Flyers center Claude Giroux was arrested in Ottawa and spent the night in jail for an incident involving a police officer, the Ottawa Sun reported Wednesday.

According to the newspaper, Giroux spent Tuesday night in jail for allegedly repeatedly grabbing the buttocks of a male police officer. The police refused to comment unless charges are filed.

The Nashville Predators signed free agent forward Olli Jokinen to a one-year, $2.5 million contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Jokinen, 35, has amassed 740 points (317 goals, 423 assists) and 1,043 penalty minutes in 1,169 NHL games with Los Angeles, the New York Islanders, Florida, Phoenix, Calgary (two stints), New York Rangers and Winnipeg since 1997.

The Ottawa Senators signed forward Carter Camper to one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Wednesday.
In addition, the Senators formally announced the re-signings of forward Cole Schneider, defenseman Michael Sdao and defenseman Chris Wideman, all of whom the club had agreed to terms with at last week's NHL draft in Philadelphia.

Restricted free agent forward Jason Akeson signed a one-year, two-way contract to remain with the Philadelphia Flyers, the team announced Wednesday.
Akeson had an assist in his only regular-season game in 2013-14 and had two goals and an assist in seven Stanley Cup playoff games.

The Detroit Red Wings signed defenseman Kyle Quincey to a two-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Quincey, 28, has played in a total of 375 NHL games between the Red Wings, Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings, recording 23 goals and 88 assists.

The Vancouver Canucks signed centers Dustin Jeffrey and Cal O'Reilly and defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti on Wednesday.
Jeffrey, 26, had two goals and four points in 34 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Dallas Stars last season. He also had seven goals and five assists in 19 American Hockey League playoff games with the Texas Stars, Dallas' AHL affiliate.

The Chicago Blackhawks agreed to terms with defenseman Kyle Cumiskey on a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Cumiskey, 27, had 28 points (4 goals, 24 assists) in 45 games last season with MODO of the Swedish Hockey League. He shared 12th in the SHL, third among defensemen, in assists and shared fifth among league blueliners in points.

The New York Rangers signed free agent forward Chris Bourque, the team announced Wednesday.
The Boston University product was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the second round (No. 33) of the 2004 draft and split last season between Kazan Ak-Bars of the Kontinental Hockey League and EHC Biel of National League A in Switzerland.

The Minnesota Wild signed forward Joel Rechlicz to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Rechlicz, 27, had a goal and an assist along with 87 penalty minutes in 25 games last season for the Hershey Bears, the Washington Capitals' American Hockey League affiliate.

The New Jersey Devils re-signed forwards Stephen Gionta and Steve Bernier, the team announced Wednesday.
Financial terms were not disclosed on the contracts, but multiple reports have Gionta signing a two-year contract and Bernier signing for one year.

Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame broadcaster Rick Jeanneret has been diagnosed with throat cancer.
Jeanneret, 71, told The Buffalo News on Wednesday he plans on returning to the broadcast booth this season. Jeanneret has broadcast Sabres games on radio and television for 43 years.
