Semin signs on at Capitals

Left wing Alexander Semin has signed a one-year contract extension with the Washington Capitals, the NHL team said.

Financial terms were not announced by the team, but the league's official website reported the deal was worth $6.7 million.

Semin, 26, ranks second in goals (18) and third in points (35) with the Capitals. He shares the NHL lead in hat tricks with three.

A lower-body injury has kept the Russian out of the lineup since Jan. 8 and he has not scored a goal since Nov. 28.
