You'd think that suffering a fractured skull in a bout would be enough to put somebody off MMA.
In the case of Evangelista 'Cyborg' Santos, you'd be wrong.
The 38-year-old took part in a bout in London this weekend against Michael Page at Bellator 158, which took place at the O2 Arena on Saturday.
Santos took a flying knee to the head that sent him to the canvas, ended the bout, and left him with horrific skull injuries - one which was likened by a medical worker at the scene as the sort of thing that you'd expect from a severe car crash.
Despite the injury, Santos told MMA fighting that he's already thinking about his return to the ring.
"I’m under observation now, and will have surgery in the United States," Santos told MMA Fighting.
"I had a serious injury, but Bellator is giving me all the support I need...
"I’ll be back soon."
Santos's ex-wife took to Instagram to share the pictures of the fighter in hospital, where he is recuperating until he's well enough to return to the USA.
His victor, Page, also passed on his best wishes via Twitter.
