Dana White confirmed the disappointing news for UFC fight fans on social media, as the highly-rated Irishman's upward trajectory in the sport comes to a temporary halt. Ian Machado Garry was due to fight his sparring partner Vicente Luque on Saturday, but has been forced to pull out of the bout after succumbing to the illness. It remains to be seen which fight will be take its place.

Ian Machado Garry has been ruled out of his fight against Vicente Luque at UFC 296 after contracting pneumonia.
UFC CEO Dana White responded to the speculation and posted a brief video on X, formerly Twitter, to confirm the news.
He said: “Ian Garry started with the flu that turned into pneumonia.”
“So that fight is off and is not happening. It is true.”
Rumours started to fly when Machado Garry did not turn up to a UFC 296 media day on Wednesday, and there was no explanation for his absence at the time.
However, that has now come to light, with Machado Garry suffering from pneumonia and forcing him to withdraw from a highly anticipated welterweight showdown.
The UFC is yet to confirm which fight will replace Machado v Luque on the main card.
It is a huge blow for Garry, as the Irishman previously spoke about his aims of becoming a welterweight title contender and hoped to use victory in Las Vegas as a launch pad for that success.
“Next year my aim is to make it into that contender realm," he told In Camp With Ian Machado Garry on TNT Sports.
“The rest of next year will be really exciting, really awesome match-ups, a lot of growth, evolution in the next 12 months. Trust me it’s going to be exciting.
“When I get my hand raised at UFC 296 in Vegas you can be sure that I’m going to keep this up in the division, keep putting fear into people that the new guys are coming through - this kid is fast, this kid is good, this kid is talented, energetic, he’s new, he’s different.”
UFC 296 will be headlined by the welterweight championship fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington, in what is the last major card of 2023.
Edwards has earned the right to fight for the title with two wins over former title holder Kamaru Usman.
All of the action from UFC 296 will be shown live on TNT Sports Box Office.

What time does Edwards v Covington start?

The broadcast of the preliminary card will be available for TNT Sports subscribers to watch on TNT Sports 1 and discovery+ from 01:00. The main card will start from 03:00 and will be available exclusively on TNT Sports Box Office.
