UFC Fight Night: Rose Namajunas beats Amanda Ribas by unanimous decision in gritty display in Las Vegas

Rose Namajunas ended a run of consecutive defeats to overcome the Brazilian Amanda Ribas in their UFC flyweight contest. Namajunas had to withstand several takedowns from Ribas, and landed some devastating blows of her own to seal a hard-fought victory. Namajunas is now looking to make her way up the flyweight rankings, and is eyeing up fights with Manon Fiorot, Erin Blanchfield and Maycee Barber.

Rose Namajunas secured a win by unanimous decision against Amanda Ribas in the UFC Fight Night main event in Las Vegas.
It was a much-needed victory for Namajunas, who ended a two-fight losing streak with a gritty display against the Brazilian.
Two of the three judges scored four of the five rounds in favour of Namajunas, while the other awarded three to American.
Ribas showed plenty of promise in the fight after attempting a series of takedowns which ultimately did not reap the full rewards.
She set her stall out in round one after getting a takedown following a spinning body kick, but Namajunas was able to overturn and position herself on top to land a few blows.
Namajunas continued her control of the contest in round two after landing a right and left hand at the start, before escaping a Ribas knee bar later.
Her dominance continued in round three with a huge leg kick, followed by making a big impact to the body. However, Ribas ended on top with a superb takedown just before the bell.
Ribas continued that momentum into the start of round four with some brilliant combinations, before Namajunas stemmed the tide with a fine takedown.
Namajunas ended this attritional contest on top with a fine knee and leg kick to seal a hard-fought win.
Reflecting on the fight in her press conference, she said: “I defended the majority of her takedowns, I took her down as well.
I know she goes for knee bars and arm bars so I was ready for that; I know she likes to throw the left body kick and head kick.
“I still defended some of them; for the most part it was more successful than not. I prepared pretty well for her.”
