What drama. Be sure to follow the race with us tomorrow from 13:00.

-

So this is the grid for tomorrow: 1 Simoncelli; 2 Stoner; 3 Lorenzo /// 4 Spies; 5 Dovizioso; 6 Crutchlow /// 7 Rossi; 8 Hayden; 9 Bautista /// 10 Barbera; 11 Aoyama; 12 De Puniet /// 13 Capirossi; 14 Elias; 15 Abraham.

-

Wow, who saw that coming? Stoner was so dominant but Simoncelli pipped him right at the end. A great effort from the Hondas all round.

1'

Oh dear, Rossi finishes in seventh. A bit disappointing for the multiple champion.

1'

Stoner can't reply and Marco Simoncelli will be in pole position for the race tormorrow. Stoner must be sick to his stomach.

1'

Spies into third and Simoncelli improves on his own fastest lap!

1'

Rossi gets across, just, for one final flying lap.

1'

Sensational! Simoncelli takes pole with a lap of 1:42.413! Stoner bumped down right at the end!

1'

Rossi's first split shows he is well off the pace once more.

2'

Karel Abraham has now done 16 laps - great news after that heavy crash right at the start of qualifying.

2'

Stoner through again but he is three tenths off his own pace. Still, it is quicker than anything anyone else has produced yet again. Dominant doesn't even begin to sum up his trip to Barcelona so far.

4'

Rossi emerges from the pit lane for his final couple of laps in this qualifying session. Can he improve on sixth?

5'

Alvaro Bautista puts his Suzuki in seventh place from tenth.

6'

Rossi takes sixth from Cal Crutchlow and a place on the second row, as things stand.

7'

We are approaching the final stages and Casey Stoner has hardly had to break sweat. He has been imperious all weekend so pole would be well deserved.

8'

Rossi goes through in 1:43.551 which is nowhere near good enough today.

9'

Still Rossi can't find the pace and he is nearly a second off Stoner, sitting in seventh place.

10'

Ben Spies pulls out a fine lap for Yamaha and goes into second with a 1:42.804! Superb stuff, and out of nowhere. Simoncelli is through but remains in third.

11'

Simoncelli divides the Hondas as he usurps Dovizioso to take second place.

12'

Replays show Stoner nearly losing it as his bike squirms underneath him. Surely that didn't happen during his fastest lap??

13'

Stoner just continues to tear up the opposition as he sets a new fastest lap of 1:42.429. He is a full 0.486 ahead of Dovizioso.

14'

We are on board with Casey Stoner as he twists around the Catalan circuit. Hitting 18,000 revs.

16'

Quick from Andrea Dovizioso as he goes into second, ahead of Jorge Lorenzo, with a 1:42.915. Honda in the top two places.

17'

Lorenzo making a late charge then but Stoner is still looking pretty comfortable in first.

18'

They are starting to step it up now and Jorge Lorenzo moves into second with a 1:42.924. Rossi is still down in seventh though.

18'

Crutchlow again! Now he sets a 1:43.501 to take fourth! Superb stuff from the Yamaha man.

19'

The rookie is showing once again that he is a rider of great potential. With team-mate Colin Edwards out due to injury, his performance will give Yamaha a real lift.

20'

Crutchlow flies into sixth place with a 1:43.592. That puts him ahead of the man, the legend, Valentino Rossi.

22'

HIroshi Aoyama takes seventh place as he rises from tenth.

25'

Stoner is out on track and suffers a couple of wobbles. This lap won't trouble the mark he has set so far but at five tenths longer, it is still quicker than anything anyone else has produced.

26'

Alvaro Bautista runs a bit which may have taken a bit of time out of his lap. He currently sits in 12th.

27'

Not a lot of action at the top of the table as Stoner sits unchallenged after that quick lap. Hopefully we will see a bit of excitement at the conclusion of this session.

29'

We are following Loris Capirossi, currently at the bottom of the Championship standings, and he is making little impact down in 14th.

30'

So Stoner remains firmly on course for his fourth pole of the season.

32'

Rossi is back in the garage after that lap. He takes a seat and contemplates his current standing of sixth.

33'

Rossi clocks up a 1:43.898 and that's nowhere near troubling Stoner, who sits imperiously at the top of the table.

34'

Bit of a wobble for Rossi but he recovers and stays on his bike. That won't help his time.

35'

Here's Valentino Rossi then, what can the great man do? He is fifth in the current MotoGP standings of course.

36'

Crutchlow's lap is a 1.45.614 which fails to improve on his current position of seventh.

37'

Cal Crutchlow is on a flying lap but looks a bit off the pace in the early stages.

39'

Jorge Lorenzo sets his fastest lap with 1:43.244 while Marco Simoncelli takes fourth.

40'

Superb news as Karel Abrahams gets back on the bike and out on track. So that injury wasn't too bad then.

41'

Jorge Lorenzo goes round in 1:43.350 so he isn't troubling Stoner at the moment. Can he find more pace on this track?

42'

So Casey Stoner is fastest by a good six tenths of a second - maintaining the standards he has set in the practice sessions in Catalunya.

44'

Confirmation that Karel Abraham has suffered a wrist injury. We do not know how serious it is yet though. We will keep you updated.

46'

Valentino Rossi is over a second off the pace so far and he returns to the garage for a chat with his mechanics.

48'

Stoner starts the weekend 12 points shy of Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo, with Dani Pedrosa, absent due to injury, a further five points back.

49'

So two Hondas leading the pack at the moment. That will make for a decent day if things stay like this.

50'

No updates on the condition of Karel Abraham after his crash at speed. To reiterate though, he did walk away.

51'

That man Casey Stoner sets the quickest time of the weekend with 1:42.581. He will take some beating by the looks of things.

52'

Andrea Dovizioso usurps Lorenzo with 1:43.405 and that is two tenths quicker than anything he has done so far this weekend.

53'

Just a reminder that Casey Stoner went quickest in the final qualifying session when recording a 1:42.691.

54'

Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo goes top of the pile with 1:43.635.

56'

Toni Elias posts the first time of the afternoon with 1:56.288.

57'

Karel Abraham is off! It's a heavy fall for the Ducati rider as he slides off the track. Thankfully he walks away but he is clutching his arm.

57'

It is a warm and muggy day on the outskirts of Barcelona, perfect conditions for qualifying.

59'

Texan Colin Edwards is also missing today after breaking his collarbone as well. He landed heavily in practice on Friday.

60'

And we are underway!

12.54

Casey Stoner has been setting the pace in Barcelona and was quickest in all three practice sessions. It may take some effort to beat him today.

12.52

Just a reminder that Dani Pedrosa is absent today after breaking his collarbone at the French MotoGP.
