So Stoner has pole ahead of Lorenzo and Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi will start from his equal worst position of seventh
Pedrosa goes wide shortly before the end of his final flying lap to end his challenge for pole position. It looks as though he will have to make do with the back of the front row, or possibly even the front of the second row if anyone can come up with anything in the dying minutes
STONER BREAKS THE 1:49 MARK! He takes his time down to 1:48.942 and with just over a minute left to go it's doubtful anyone can beat that surely
Lorenzo goes second, about a tenth of a second down on Stoner's time, with the Australian and his Ducati team-mate Hayden both starting new laps
Stoner further lowers his time on the flying Ducati, bringing it down to 1:49.152 but Lorenzo is at the start of a flying lap at the moment. What has he got?
STONER SNATCHES POLE BACK FROM PEDROSA! 1:49.329 is the time that the Australian sneaks just as he heads over the line and that puts the pressure right back on the Spaniard. He's got five minutes left to come up with something special again
And there we go, PEDROSA TAKES BACK POLE at his first attempt with a new time of 1:49.343. He's absolutely flying and more importantly he's making it look easy on a tricky bike
STONER SNATCHES POLE away from Pedrosa with a lap of 1:49.526 but the Spaniard has looked comfortable every time he's posted a flying lap so that's bound not to last too long
Jorge Lorenzo makes a push to snatch pole position away from his compatriot and title challenger Pedrosa but his time of 1:50.837 is only quick enough to take second away from Stoner
Hayden races round on his personal best lap so far at Aragon but still it's not good enough to get him into the front row as his 1:50.19 sees him move to the front of the second row
Pedrosa further lowers his time but one hundredth of a second to 1:49.703 to continues to lead ahead of Stoner, who has now also dipped under the 1:50 mark
There's no real change at the top of the time-sheets as Pedrosa continues to lead from Stoner and current championship leader Lorenzo. Nicky Hayden is fifth fastest at the moment and Ben Spies has just snuck into the sixth fastest spot ahead of Hector Barbera
We're a third of the way through this session already, there's no time for messing about in this shortened qualifying period
Dani Pedrosa becomes the first man under the 1:50 mark, crashing to the top of the time-sheets ahead of Stoner. 1:49.833 is the Spaniard's time much to the delight of the small but vocal crowd today
Stoner has further lowered his time, taking it down to 1:50.021 as he continues his dominance early in this session, and more generally in Aragon today
Stoner already has posted two flying laps, and he's particularly speeding round that final corner. He records a time of 1:50.045 in a track he doesn't think "is all that special" and that's a new track record for Aragon
The news yesterday from MotoGP was their announcement concerning a tribute to Shoya Tomizawa, who tragically lost his life in a Moto2 accident at Misano two weeks ago.
If you are wondering why this session is only 45 minutes unstead of the usual hour, then we can tell you. Instead of having just the two free practice sessions, this weekend there are three instread and as a result all the session lengths have been shortened. Overall, the riders have the same amount of track time but it's over four sessions instead of just three. But that's for this weekend only
Right then, here we go. The 45 minute qualifying session is underway with Valentino Rossi very quickly up and running out of the track
We've had three practice sessions so far this weekend with home favourite and title hope Dani Pedrosa topping the time-sheets in the first session and Australian Casey Stoner topping sessions two and three
The good news for the riders is that yesterday's wet weather has given way to much better conditions, and in particular drier conditions
