Jorge Martin wins second Sprint race event in German Grand Prix at Sachsenring, Marc Marquez struggles

Pramac Ductai rider Jorge Martin claimed victory in the Sprint race in the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring on Saturday afternoon, with the 25-year-old recording his second career win in the Sprint format. He successfully passed Francesco Bagnaia, with the Italian having to settle for second spot on his Ducati and third place went to Jack Miller.

Jorge Martin won the Sprint race in the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring on Saturday afternoon.
Francesco Bagnaia started on pole, and he and Martin battled early for the lead, but the pair were distracted, allowing Jack Miller to steal in for the lead.
Martin then effortlessly slipped by both Bagnaia and Miller on a straight, and with nine laps to go, opened up a second’s lead. Reigning world champion Bagnaia would take second spot, with Miller in third.
Martin has now overtaken Marco Bezzecchi in the overall championship. Bagnaia has 140 points, Martin 119 and Bezzecchi slips to third on 113.
Brad Binder, starting in ninth, battled up to face off with Luca Marini for fourth place, but ended the race in sixth spot, as Johann Zarco moved ahead of him.
There were problems for two experienced riders, as Maverick Vinales found himself in the gravel at T1 with four laps remaining, ruling him out of contention.
Marc Marquez, who crashed three times in the space of an hour in the two qualifying sessions earlier, continued to struggle as he found himself in 11th at the end of the race for a disappointing result.
The win is Martin’s second victory in the Sprint format. The 30-lap full race takes place on Sunday.
