BYE FOR NOW

That's it for the Sprint from the Spanish GP - thank you for your company throughout today's race.

We go again tomorrow for the Grand Prix race, it's lights out at 1pm BST. See you then!

14:58

MARTIN POST-RACE

'It was a difficult race, the track conditions were super hard. I made a good start, but then I saw Marquez was coming, even tough I was pushing a lot. Marc [Marquez] overtook me because I made a mistake at Turn 7 and he caught me. Then I tried to follow him, to push him, and he made a mistake. But tomorrow for sure in fully dry conditions it will be a different story. Hopefully, we can enjoy today because winning here in Jerez is amazing and I'm really, really happy.'

14:55

ACOSTA POST-RACE

'We know we have the pace, but it was quite tough starting 10th after the crash in qualifying. It was quite tough. The first lap was nice, doing some overtakes. Also with the mixed conditions at Turns 5 and 8, it was not quite easy because of the wet patches, it was easy to lose the rear there. When I was behind Enea [Bastianini] I touched the wet and went wide.

'We are getting closer also in the Sprint, we are getting closer to our targets and that's it. The position in the championship doesn't really matter, but making a podium in front of these fans is completely amazing.'

14:49

QUARTARARO POST-RACE

'Starting from P23, it was a great race. The track was really tricky, of course there were many crashes in front of me. But I managed to get the first podium of the year for the Sprint and especially here in Jerez, it's a very special place for me. Hopefully, tomorrow we can do a great race and enjoy it like today.'

12/12

MARTIN WINS IN JEREZ

Martin stays error-free to take the chequered flag and win in Jerez. Acosta comes home in second while Quartararo manages to defend from Pedrosa.

12/12

FIGHT FOR THE PODIUM

Incredibly, the various crashes mean that Fabio Quartararo is now in a podium position. He has to defend it hard though with Dani Pedrosa attacking ferociously.

11/12

With the incredible amount of crashes, here is your updated order:

  1. Martin
  2. Acosta
  3. Quartararo
  4. Pedrosa
  5. Zarco
10/12

VINALES DOWN

Vinales is the next rider to crash out at Turn 5. You get the feeling that there might be something on the track.

9/12

MARQUEZ DOWN

M Marquez now crashes out, leaving Martin in the lead.

9/12

TANDEM CRASH

Three riders crash in quick succession as A Marquez, Binder, and Bastianini go down independently of each other at the same corner.

8/12

MARQUEZ ON THE CHARGE

M Marquez has been gradually taking time out of Martin and now set the fastest lap of the race.

After a mistake from Martin through Turn 7, the duo is back together on track.

6/12

FIGHT FOR FOURTH

The fiercest battle at the moment is that for fourth with Bastianini looking to line up a move on Binder. A number of riders are catching the duo, indicating that Binder doesn't quite have the pace at the moment.

5/12

CURRENT ORDER

After a frantic start, the positions at the front have calmed down for the time being and it's:

  1. Martin
  2. M Marquez
  3. A Marquez
  4. Binder

4/12

MARTIN ESCAPES

3/12

BAGNAIA OUT

Bagnaia gets sandwiched between Binder and Bezzecchi and, making contact with the Italian, crashes out.

2/12

SCRAP FOR SECOND

Binder tries to retaliate and punches his way past M Marquez, but the KTM goes wide as a result. A Marquez is the one to profit, sweeping past M Marquez and Binder, but loses the positions instantly to M Marquez.

2/12

MARQUEZ INTO SECOND

Unwilling to let Martin escape, M Marquez claims Binder for second.

2/12

CRASHES UPDATE

14:00

WARM UP LAP

The riders are out on track for their warm up lap. We're only moments away from racing!

13:55

WEATHER REPORT AND TYRE NEWS

After rain in the morning, the track has dried out and the weather shouldn't throw any further spanners in the works.

Tyre-wise, medium/soft is the popular option with all riders choosing that combination.

13:50

NEXT STEP FOR BASTIANINI?

Enea Bastianini has been quietly chipping away this season and worked his way up to second in the championship standings. The Italian is on a run of successive podium finishes in the GP races but chasing a first win for 2024 - could Jerez be the place?

'I think I can be satisfied with my approach these last three races and I think the work the team has done has been beautiful. I come here with consecutive race podium finishes which is a nice result. Now we're here in Jerez - it's a good track, also very technical, so let's see how it goes.

'I missed the race here last season, but I'm ready - we have a very good base and I think we can get a great result.'

13:45

VINALES RIDING THE WAVE

Fresh off making history last time out in Austin, Maverick Vinales is hoping for more of the same in Spain:

'To repeat the same in Jerez is something we dream about and it would be amazing. But we have to be realistic, we have to be smart - not every weekend will be like Austin. But the important target is to fight every single day and be in the top, trying to deliver the best performance we can with our bike.

'And especially in Jerez which is a track Spanish riders know very well, all the factories test here a lot - it's a good challenge for us to keep working and keep fighting at the front. I don't see any negative point at this track for our bike, so we must be competitive and also we must be calm that we can be at that level, this is important, to be at the level we left Portimao and Austin at.'

13:40

MARTIN KEEN TO BOUNCE BACK ON HOME SOIL

The Americas GP last time out marked the first time championship leader Jorge Martin finished off the podium this season. The Spaniard is keen to return to the rostrum on home soil and extend his points advantage:

'Austin was a bit a bit difficult for me, even though I managed to salvage things after crashing in qualifying. I tried my best and it was a fourth position but good points for the championship.

'For sure, the Spanish GP here in Jerez is always special. I achieved one podium in Moto2, so it's a good target to be on the podium again here and improve the results from last season. I remember I had a really good pace, really competitive pace, but I struggled to overtake, so I'll work hard on that to try be faster and make the podium in both races.'

13:35
