MARTIN WINS THAI GP, GIFT FOR BAGNAIA IN SECOND

Martin claims the win at the Thai GP with a tactical masterclass. Behind, Binder takes the chequered flag in second, but is immediately demoted by a position due to exceeding track limits on the final lap. Bagnaia inherits runner-up position.

26/26

SUPER DEFENSIVE FROM MARTIN

Binder is trying but not risking anything stupid, especially with Martin going super defensive into Turn 12.

26/26

LAST LAP!

Bagnaia's tyres look to be fading here, he might be set for third. It's all on between Martin and Binder though.

25/26

BAGNAIA ATTEMPTS MOVE

Bagnaia has a go around the outside through Turn 12. He can't make it stick though and remains in P3.

25/26

MARTIN BACK IN FRONT

Martin attacks Binder and squeezes him wide to reclaim the lead.

24/26

MARTIN ON DEFENCE MISSION

Martin is on a defensive line here to hold Bagnaia behind him.

23/26

SLIGHT ADVANTAGE BINDER

The smallest of gaps is opening between Binder and Martin.

The decisive question is: what will the title contenders do here? Do they go for victory or will Martin and Bagnaia focus on just beating each other?

22/26

BINDER MAKES IT STICK

At the third time of asking, Binder makes an overtake on Martin stick.

The battle between the duo has of course allowed Bagnaia to close in. There is nothing to separate the front three.

22/26

GAME ON!

This is getting feisty now! Binder makes slight contact with Martin's rear tyre, losing some ground but making it up immediately.

21/26

ANOTHER ATTEMPT FROM BINDER

Again, Binder briefly takes the lead as he block-passes into Turn 3. However, he can't stop the KTM into T4 and loses the position to Martin again.

20/26

EVERYTHING TO LOSE V NOTHING TO LOSE

There's an overtake attempt from Binder through Turn 9. He briefly claims the position, but Martin gets him on the cut-back.

19/26

WARNING SHOTS FROM BINDER

Binder is cautiously closing on Martin, threatening a potential move.

19/26

BEZZECCHI INTO P4

At the third time of asking, Bezzecchi finally makes a move on Marini stick as they go into Turn 1.

18/26

BAGNAIA SITTING OFF

Around half a second is between the Martin/Binder duo and Bagnaia. This could be a case of Bagnaia protecting his front tyre from overheating.

17/26

BEZZECCHI ON THE MOVE

Bezzecchi has now caught Marini and is eyeing up P4.

16/26

MARTIN DOING THE TACTICS JOB

Martin is doing exactly what he needs to here: controlling the pace, staying out of trouble, and, crucially, preserving the rear tyre.

The same can be said about Binder who is unbothered in second, right behind Martin.

15/26

CLOSE TOP THREE

Bagnaia has now definitely caught the front-runners with Martin, Binder, and Bagnaia now holding almost a second on an advantage over Marini.

13/26

MARQUEZ CRASHES, BAGNAIA ONTO PODIUM SPOT

A Marquez exits the race into the gravel at Turn 10. Bagnaia inherits third from the Spaniard.

13/26

BEZZECCHI ON THE CHASE

Among the battles behind the top group, Bezzecchi has come out best and now leads the chase.

12/26

SMALL GAPS

There are some small gaps opening now. The top trio of Martin, Binder, and A Marquez are half a second ahead of Bagnaia who is catching. The Italian, in turn, has more than half a second over Marini in a lonely fifth.

10/26

BAGNAIA INTO FOURTH

There's the move from Bagnaia who makes a manoeuvre stick on Marini and claims fourth. A Marquez is next up ahead with around half a second of an advantage.

9/26

BAGNAIA FINDS PACE

Bagnaia is finally finding form here as he puts pressure on Marini for fourth. He's benefitting from the scraps behind him as A Espargaro sixth is facing a gap to the front now, owed to losing time in battle.

8/26

GOOD SCRAP BETWEEN ESPARGARO AND MARQUEZ

Two of the most experienced riders on the grid are at it as A Espargaro and M Marquez swap paint for position. The Aprilia prevails for now.

7/26

DNF FOR OLIVEIRA

The race is over for Oliveira who retires with a technical issue.

7/26

CURRENT TOP 10

There's nothing much separating the whole of the field with riders keen to preserve tyres.

Here's your current top 8:

  1. Martin
  2. Binder
  3. A Marquez
  4. Marini
  5. Bagnaia
  6. A Espargaro
  7. M Marquez
  8. Bezzecchi
6/26

TOP DUO ON THE PACE

Martin and Binder aren't exactly breaking away, but they are putting a bit of a gap between themselves and A Marquez who has moved up into third.

4/26

BINDER INTO SECOND

Binder is the man on the move here as he claims A Espargaro for second and goes to hunt down Martin.

A Espargaro, in turn, drops momentum and positions.

4/26

BATTLE FOR P6

It's going from bad to worse for Bagnaia who loses out to M Maquez as the duo exchange punches.

3/26

BINDER INTO THIRD

Binder is making his overtaking early today and moves past Marini into third.

3/26

MARTIN ON CONTROL MISSION

Martin is going as fast as he dares here. He can't risk trying to bolt and destroy his tyres - like he did in Australia - and controls his pace at the front of the field.

Elsewhere, Bagnaia is under pressure and indeed beat to P5 by A Marquez.

1/26

BIG MOMENT FOR BAGNAIA

There's an early moment for Bagnaia with a bit of a front end lock-up that sees him fall into fifth behind Binder.

1/26

MARTIN BEATS MARINI TO LEAD

Marini challenges pole sitter Martin for the lead, but the Spaniard prevails to take the holeshot into Turn 1.

A Espargaro is on the move and takes second off Marini.

8:00

WARM UP LAP

The riders are out on the Chang International Circuit for their warm up lap.

No rain so far, but those threatening clouds remain.

7:57

GRID LINE-UP

Here is a final reminder of how the riders are lining up on the grid today:

7:53

TYRE NEWS

Looking at the pre-race tyre selection, the medium/hard combination is the popular choice here with the vast majority of the field on this option. A couple of riders in Maverick Vinales, Raul Fernandez, Pol Espargaro, and Miguel Oliveira have chosen a hard/hard combo while Alex Marquez is the only one on hard/hard.

7:50

WEATHER REPORT

It is rather boiling in Thailand with air temperatures at 30 degrees Celsius plus. There are some dark clouds hovering above the circuit, causing some unexpected rain scares.

7:48

RINS SHARES POSITIVE SURGERY UPDATE

Alex Rins was hopeful to finally end a lengthy injury absence and return to the grid in Thailand. Alas, the LCR rider withdrew from the Thai GP before it even started due to persistent pain and instead underwent surgery in Madrid on Thursday. With hi focus now entirely on recuperation, the timeline for Rins' Grand Prix return remains uncertain. He did share a positive surgery update on his social media though:

7:45

MARQUEZ CLEAR FOR DUCATI DEBUT AT VALENCIA TEST

Marc Marquez has been having a good weekend so far in Thailand with P4 in the Sprint, but the arguably most positive news for the Spaniard came during FP2 when Repsol Honda Team Manager Alberto Puig publicly confirmed that Honda will allow Marquez to ride the Gresini Ducati at the Valencia Test in late November.

'This is very important for all riders when they're changing teams, so we understand,' Puig said.'This is something that happens and the process must keep going the way it normally goes, so there will be no objection from Honda's side.'

7:42

FIRST THAILAND WIN FOR DUCATI IN SIGHT?

Having been in flying form so far this weekend, Jorge Martin could make history for Ducati today. The Bologna company has never won a Grand Prix in Thailand, the Chang International Circuit indeed being the only track on the current calendar where Ducati never took victory, and Martin would dearly love to be the one to change that.

7:40

DUCATI GUARANTEED RIDERS' TITLE

After yesterday's Sprint, the 2023 riders' world championship is guaranteed to go to Ducati. Brad Binder dropped out of mathematical contention, meaning only three riders remain within a shot at the title in Pecco Bagnaia, Jorge Martin, and Marco Bezzecchi.

7:33

LAP RECORD TAKES MARTIN TO POLE

Jorge Martin was all-in in yesterday's qualifying session and set a new lap record around the Chang International Circuit to secure pole position. Luca Marini and Aleix Espargaro join him on the front row while Francesco Bagnaia has work to do from P6.

  1. Jorge Martin
  2. Luca Marini
  3. Aleix Espargaro
  4. Marco Bezzecchi
  5. Brad Binder
  6. Francesco Bagnaia
  7. Alex Marquez
  8. Marc Marquez
  9. Maverick Vinales
7:30

HELLO AND WELCOME

Good morning and thank you for joining our live text coverage of the 2023 MotoGP Thailand Grand Prix. The Chang International Circuit hosts the next chapter of a thrilling championship battle in which Jorge Martin has looked flawless so far. Victory in yesterday's Sprint means the Spaniard has cut his championship deficit to Pecco Bagnaia back down to 18 points and without a doubt he'll be keen to reduce it further. However, Martin and Bagnaia can't afford any mistakes amidst their title fight - can other riders capitalise with nothing to lose?
