Iannone to miss Laguna Seca race

The Pramac Ducati rider crashed in final practice at the German circuit and dislocated his shoulder, forcing him to withdraw from Sunday's race.

It has now been confirmed he will not be fit enough to compete in the US Grand Prix.

Speaking before his withdrawal was confirmed, Iannone said: "I really wanted to compete [at the Sachsenring] because I felt good, but it probably would've been a case of causing more damage than gaining satisfaction.

"Although it's not easy, sometimes it's better to say no.

"I'd really like to [compete at Laguna Seca] because I've never raced there, so it would be the first time.

"Still, I want to evaluate the situation properly, as I can't take unnecessary risks that could compromise the rest of the championship."

Iannone's withdrawal means Pramac will be without either of its full-time riders, with Ben Spies still not fully recovered from persistent shoulder problems.

The American has completed just two races for the team this year. He is targeting a full return at Indianapolis, the next round after Laguna Seca.

Spies will be replaced by Moto2 rider Alex de Angelis, as Ducati test rider - and regular Pramac stand-in – Michele Pirro is due to be riding for Ducati at Misano.

Alongside Spies and Iannone's injury worries, reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo remains a serious doubt for the weekend.

The Spaniard said via Twitter that he intended not to take the risk of competing at Laguna Seca, but Yamaha subsequently insisted no final decision has been taken.
