Marc Marquez has said instinct would kick in in the event of him being faced with an overtake of his brother Alex.
The MotoGP season is on the horizon, with the season getting underway in Qatar on March 10 - live on TNT Sports and discovery+- and the Marquez brothers will be riding the same Gresini Ducati after Marc left Honda at the end of 2023.
While they are brothers and teammates, there will be no quarter given when they are battling for position on the track.
"I took a gamble to finish seventh last year,” Marc Marquez said when asked if he would risk a crash with his brother if a race win was on the line.
Speaking on TV show El Hormiguero, via Marca, he continued: “It's instinctive, but in any case I prefer to have to ask for forgiveness rather than ask for permission, even if it's my brother.”
Asked about being in the same team as his brother, Marc said: “You always try to help a team-mate, although there is rivalry because a rider’s first rival is his team-mate.
“They both want to be the best on the track, but in this case it is different because we are brothers.”
Marquez has had to get used to a new bike, and admitted falling into old habits was hard to stop.
"Each motorcycle has its 'secrets' when it comes to riding it,” he said.
“A motorcycle can go very well but the rider has to ride it one way or another.
“So, I have been riding the Honda for 11 years, now I have changed to a Ducati and I have to automate everything so as not to fall into vices of the other bike.”
