Tsingtao WKBikes rider Howie Mainwaring Smart has been ruled out of further action at this weekend's Assen MCE British Superbike round after breaking his collarbone in this morning's opening free practice.
The Kent rider slipped off in the same place as Jorge Lorenzo after a water pipe came loose on his Kawasaki ZX-10R and he has re-broken the collarbone he damaged earlier in the year.
"Everyone is laughing because it is the same place that Lorenzo came off and did the same thing. The bone has broken exactly where the metal plate ends where it was repaired last time. Obviously, I can't ride now so I will be flying home tomorrow," said Mainwaring Smart, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
"I have already spoken to my surgeon and I think I can get it operated on on Monday, so that will be good and then we can think about a recovery time and getting back on a bike, hopefully for Silverstone."
