Jackson Goldstone clinched a World Cup in his home town of Mont-Sainte-Anne on Saturday to finish second in the Downhill individual standings, with Loic Bruni claiming his third overall title. Valentina Holl produced a rapid run to clinch the top prize in the women’s discipline, racing to victory and winning by over 13 seconds to cap off a remarkable season.

'What did she do?!' - Holl dominates in Mont-Sainte-Anne to seal title

Valentina Holl and Loic Bruni were crowned world champions at the UCI Downhill World Cup in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada on Saturday.
A third-place finish for Specialized Gravity rider Bruni was enough to seal his third overall title, while Santa Cruz Syndicate’s Jackson Goldstone won the final race in his hometown with a time of 3:57.836.
Victory on Saturday was not enough for Goldstone to take the overall title. The 19-year-old finished second, 82 points shy of Bruni’s 1698.
“It feels amazing,” Bruni said, speaking after the confirmation of his overall title win. “The pressure was unbearable at the top.
“I wasn’t in my favourable conditions, I knew the track was very physical so it was easy to blow it [but] I held on, barely, rode super tight, it was not really enjoyable but I made it and I was so happy.
“Super achievement, this season was really tough and I’m so happy and proud of me, and proud of the whole team.”

George Ethan Craik finished second on the day, sandwiched in between Goldstone and Bruni, but the Gt-Continental Factory Racing rider could only finish 19th overall.
Loris Vergier (Trek Factory Racing Gravity), who came second overall last year, dropped down to third behind Goldstone in the individual standings.

Meanwhile, in the women’s discipline, Holl produced a rapid run in Mont-Sainte-Anne to clinch the overall title.
The Rockshox Trek Race Team rider was over 13 seconds quicker than second-placed Nina Hoffman of Santa Cruz Syndicate, who also finished second in the individual standings.
The win capped off a remarkable season for Holl, who finished on 2422 points, 509 points clear of Hoffman.
Marine Cabirou claimed third place in the overall standings despite becoming a victim of the tricky track in Canada, which tested the riders to their limits throughout the day.
The Scott Downhill Factory clipped her front wheel at the top of a rocky drop and lost control of her bike, her hands coming away from the handlebars before crashing to a halt.
She was able to get to her feet and shake off the incident, eventually managing an eighth-place finish on the day.
Veronika Widmann (Continental Nukeproof Factory) finished in fourth, and 12th in the overall table, and Harriet Harnden rounded off the top five on the day, helping the Trek Factory Racing Gravity rider to a 17th-place overall finish.
Behind Holl, Hoffman and Cabirou in the overall individual standings, Camile Balanche (Dorval Am Commencal) earned fourth place while Tahnee Seagrave (Canyon Cllctv Fmd) came fifth.
