Johannes Lamparter beat out compatriot Stefan Rettenegger by just 0.01 seconds in the men's Nordic Combined individual large hill/10km.
Rettenegger had secured top spot in the ski jumping with a score of 136.7 points, 1.3 points better than Lamparter in second.
That gave the younger of the two Austrians a five-second head start before the cross-country section, with Estonia's Kristjan Ilves starting 26 seconds later in third.
Within a kilometre, Lamparter was less than a second behind and overtook at the 3.6km mark.
Rettenegger moved back into the lead but was never able to open a gap on Lamparter who moved ahead in the closing stages and took victory by just 0.1 seconds to deny Rettenegger a first win of the season.
Ilves finished third, 51.8 seconds back, having held off the challenge of Terence Weber who eventually finished seventh.
Crystal Globe leader Jarl Magnus Riiber of Norway was not in action in Finland to see his lead cut to a still-healthy 451 points by Rettenegger in second.
