The Super League club summoned the 21-year-old to an internal disciplinary hearing following a complaint by new coach Ian Millward and say they have agreed appropriate sanctions which will remain confidential.
"Castleford Tigers can confirm that the club disciplinary panel today considered a complaint by head coach Ian Millward regarding a contravention of the club's code of conduct by first-team player Richard Owen," a club statement said. "The player acknowledged that a serious breach of the code had occurred and the panel agreed appropriate sanctions which for reasons of confidentiality will not be revealed."
It added: "The club consider this matter closed and Owen will continue with his playing duties."
After the hearing Owen said: "My punishment is deserved. I have learned my lessons and will make sure this never happens again.
"I'm even more focused now on restoring the faith that Basil (Millward), my team-mates, the club and fans have in me and will do all I can to make a big impact on the pitch for the club next season."
Castleford say they are also aware of a recent incident involving the same player that is the subject of a police investigation.
A Castleford spokesman said: "This matter will be considered by the club, if required, when the appropriate authorities have determined this issue."
