Saracens and England No. 8 Billy Vunipola was sent off on Saturday as his club suffered a 27-16 defeat in their Champions Cup opener against the Bulls, but a disciplinary panel has now ruled that the red card was not warranted, and his suspension has been lifted. Bristol’s Fijian winger Kalaveti Ravouvou was also cited on the same weekend but will face no further punishment.

Saracens No. 8 Billy Vunipola will face no disciplinary action after his red card in the Champions Cup defeat against the Bulls was rescinded.
The South African side won 27-16 on Saturday evening, and Vunipola was sent off after he made head contact with his opponent, Cameron Hanekom.
However that 52nd minute dismissal has now been expunged by a disciplinary panel.
The panel found that while the contact was illegal, there was not enough force behind the foul to justify a sending-off.
The England international will be available for his side’s home match against Connacht this weekend.
There was also a reprieve for Bristol’s Fijian winger Kalaveti Ravouvou, who was cited for a dangerous tackle in their victory over Lyon.
He was given a yellow card for a tip tackle on Alexandre Tchaptchet, and a disciplinary panel found that while it was an illegal action and deserved a yellow, it did not merit any further action.
Ravouvou is now free to play for Bristol’s away fixture against Bordeaux.
