England and Sale Sharks flanker Ben Curry says he is "gutted" after twin brother and club team-mate Tom Curry was ruled out for the rest of the season with a hip injury.
Tom Curry was involved for England in last month's Rugby World Cup while Ben Curry missed out on the competition that took place in France.
England suffered a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of eventual winners South Africa in the semi-finals but secured a third-placed finish at the tournament after beating Argentina in a hard-fought contest.
Tom Curry has not featured for Sale since the end of the tournament and he is set to miss the remainder of the campaign with a hip injury that requires surgery, as confirmed by Sale director of rugby Alex Sanderson on Tuesday.
Brother Ben Curry is confident that Tom can return in even better shape following his time out of action and joked that he deserves the rest.
"Obviously really gutted for him," Ben Curry told TNT Sports. "To be honest, he's probably had that [injury] for a while now so it'll be good to get it fixed.
"The type of person he is, he'll come back stronger. I know that's a pretty cliche thing to say but I think he did it overworking so I think he can go the other way as well if he really handled it properly.
"I'm looking forward to seeing him get through this and to be honest he probably deserves a couple of months off anyway. So it'll be good to recoup and then go ahead in the next few months."
Ben Curry has made three appearances for Sale this season and scored a try in their Gallagher Premiership Rugby opening victory over Gloucester at the start of the month.
Sale sit at the top of the Premiership table after securing five victories from their first six matches including a win against Newcastle last weekend.
Both Curry brothers will be keen for Sale to continue their fine form when they host Bath in the Premiership on Friday night.
