Eddie Jones' second spell in charge of Australia has ended less than a year into a five-year deal. The Wallabies endured a difficult 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign, exiting the competition having failed to advance from a pool that included Wales, Fiji and Portugal. Under Jones, who was appointed coach in January, Australia won just two of their nine Test matches this year.

Eddie Jones has left his role as coach of Australia after the Wallabies’ Rugby World Cup campaign ended in disappointment.
"Rugby Australia can confirm that it has accepted the resignation of Wallabies head coach Eddie Jones, and he will depart the position on 25 November 2023," read a statement from Rugby Australia.
"Rugby Australia thanks Eddie for his commitment to the Wallabies in 2023, and wishes him the best in his future endeavours.
"Announcements regarding the future of the Wallabies coaching staff will be made in due course."
Australia failed to make it out of the pool stage after two losses from four matches, with Wales and Fiji progressing to the knockout stages. Rugby Australia has announced an independent review into the team's performance in France.
Jones had returned to Australia for his second spell in charge of the national side but leaves less than a year into a five-year contract having also lost seven of nine Tests.
Negative headlines had dominated Australia’s build-up to the World Cup after attack coach Brad Davis resigned after citing “personal matters”.
In an extraordinary pre-tournament press conference, Jones told journalists to “go give yourselves uppercuts” after his youthful squad selection was criticised.
Among the experienced players to miss out on travelling to France were back row Michael Hooper and fly-half Quade Cooper.
His departure comes just weeks after Jones told reporters that he was committed to the job.
"I'm staying," he told reporters in Australia. "I've always been committed to Australian rugby, I want to leave it in a better place, and that's still the job."
The former England coach had also denied speculation linking him with a return as Japan coach.
