Wales coach Warren Gatland had his team looking set for the 2023 Rugby World Cup semi-finals when they were 10-0 up in the first half against their last-eight opponents, Argentina. However, it was the Pumas who made their way through to the final four when they rallied to win the match 29-17. Speaking after the match, Gatland said he wanted to continue with Wales.

Warren Gatland conceded that if the Welsh Rugby Union “want to get rid of me then that is up to them” after his side lost 29-17 to Argentina.
Gatland’s Wales were 10-0 up early in the quarter-final but Argentina’s Emiliano Boffelli scored four penalties, two either side of half-time, to edge Argentina ahead for the first time in the game.
Tomos Williams scored a second Welsh try to take his team back ahead, but Joe Sclavi and Nicolas Sanchez added late tries to put the Pumas nine in front to claim victory.
Argentina now move into the semi-finals, while Gatland will take stock of what comes next.
Discussing his contract during his post-match press conference, Gatland said: "There's a clause but I don't know exactly what it is.
"I want to see this group through but if the WRU [Welsh Rugby Union] want to get rid of me then that is up to them.
"It's slipped away from us but we'll take learnings. We need to look at how do you improve from this. We played too much and needed to be more conservative.
"But I'm incredibly proud of the effort everyone has put in. We've made really good strides and we need to make sure we continue with that and not go backwards."
Wales were the bigger team but came up against a strong and determined Argentina.
Gatland added: "We're incredibly disappointed. Argentina are incredibly tough and physical and stayed in the fight.
"That game could have gone either way. We were not at our best but still could have won."
