Ocean Race 2022-23: 11th Hour Racing submit request for redress after retirement from Leg 7, hope to sail to Genova

11th Hour Racing have formally retired from Leg 7 of the Ocean Race and submitted a request for redress, they have said in a statement. Captain Charlie Enright and his team were left with a hole in the stern of their boat following a crash with GUYOT environnement - Team Europe at the start of the leg. 11th Hour Racing Team retain hopes of sailing to Genova to stay in the race for victory.

11th Hour Racing Team and their skipper Charlie Enright are attempting to repair their boat with the aim of sailing to Genova after retiring from Leg 7 and submitting a request for redress.
Their boat was damaged when it was hit by GUYOT environnement - Team Europe shortly after the start of the leg in The Hague on Thursday.
The Enright-skippered team were left with a hole in the stern of their boat following the crash and were forced to head back to shore for repairs.
The team suspended racing in Leg 7 on Thursday, and on Friday retired from the leg and submitted a request for redress, which gives the team a chance to secure points in the overall race.
According to the Racing Rules of Sailing "a request for redress or a protest committee’s decision to consider redress shall be based on a claim or possibility that a boat’s score or place in a race or series has been or may be, through no fault of her own, made significantly worse".
The 11th Hour Racing Team shore crew and technical team have been working tirelessly to repair the boat since the crash. The goal is to sail to Genova and participate in the Grand Finale.
In a team statement, Enright said: “We are working around the clock to repair the boat as quickly as possible, and our intent is to sail to Genova to rejoin the fleet and complete this lap around our blue planet.
"Everyone is obviously devastated - no one wants to finish a race like this - but spirits are high within the team, and everyone is focused on finishing this incredible race on a high note.”
11th Hour Racing Team had won the past three legs, and had a two-point lead in the overall race over Team Holcim-PRB. Holcim-PRB who currently lead Leg 7 ahead of Biotherm and Team Malizia in second and third, respectively.
The redress could see 11th Hour Racing Team awarded points by a race jury.
