Team JAJO win VO65 In-Port race at The Ocean Race 2022-23 ahead of WindWhisper after stunning start

WindWhisper Racing Team were denied a third straight In-Port race win at The Ocean Race 2022-23 as Team JAJO took the honours. Team JAJO's victory was built on a fantastic start as they timed their move to perfection as the five-minute countdown expired and got a march on all their rivals. The seventh and final leg of The Ocean Race starts on June 15.

Team JAJO won The Ocean Race 2022-23 VO65 In-Port race at The Hague after making a brilliant start.

As the five-minute countdown clock ticked down, the Dutch team made a port tack start, crossing ahead of the fleet.

The move gave them a big advantage in the early stages and they couldn’t be caught.

WindWhisper Racing Team, who had won both previous In-Port races, were the closest challengers and came in second place.

A delighted Jelmer van Beek from Team JAJO said: “This is so nice, in your hometown, with so many boats around.

"The guys worked so hard. I am so proud of everyone, I never expected this, I am so happy.”

WindWhisper Racing Team lead the overall standings on 17 points ahead of Team JAJO, who have 11 points, and Mirpuri/Trifork Racing Team, who have seven points after coming in third.

"These kind of courses are more intense, more manoeuvres, it’s not as perfect as other courses, but second place is good," said WindWhisper skipper Pablo Arrarte.

"I would have signed for it this morning. It’s good."

WindWhisper were always playing catch up after Team JAJO's attacking start.

They shift to split away from Team JAJO but couldn't make up ground to maintain their winning record in the In-Port races.

Team JAJO make 'dream start' to In-Port race in The Hague

Austrian Ocean Racing powered by Team Genova made a late move to pass Viva Mexico for fourth place.

A thrilling conclusion to The Ocean Race awaits, with Leg 7 taking the teams from The Hague to Genova in Italy on June 15.

The Ocean Race will then conclude with an In-Port race in Genoa on July 1.
