Daniel-Andre Tande surprised everyone at the opening FIS World Cup event in Klingenthal as he claimed victory ahead of Slovenia’s Peter Prevc.
The 21-year-old Norwegian won his first World Cup event at the season opener in Germany, finishing with 268.7 points, three clear of Prevc in second.
Defending World Cup champion Severin Freund had to settle for third place on home soil, as he finished well down on 249.5.
That means that Tande takes the early lead in the World Cup standings, ahead of Prevc, who also finished as runner-up last year.
The competition will now head to Ruka in Finland for the second round of action next week.
