Cancer survivor Lisowski among four Crucible debutants

Jack Lisowski, Michael White, Ben Woollaston and Dechawat Poomjaeng all won in the final round before the Crucible.

Lisowski, who has battled back from Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer and is still only 21, secured his place with a 10-4 defeat over Fergal O'Brien – scoring three centuries in the process.

"I felt calm and I played well. It's great to carry on the momentum I have had in the last couple of tournaments and it's the perfect way to end the season," he said.

"I know I can give anyone a game if I play well. I'll be the quickest player there and I hope people enjoy watching me play.

"I have learned how to prepare for tournaments. I'm just going to practise hard next week and try not to get too excited."

Lisowski had chemotherapy and radiotherapy during the 2008/2009 season but came right back onto the tour and has been constantly improving up the rankings.

He told Eurosport in an interview soon after his treatment: "Having been through cancer puts snooker and normal day-to-day worries into perspective. It definitely matured me a lot as a person and had the same impact on my game. Whenever I'm feeling down I'm able to just remember how things were and it always gives me a boost."

Michael White is also only 21 and he too enjoyed a 10-4 victory – with Andrew Higginson his victim.

"It was very pleasing, from 3-1 down I made break after break and didn't do much wrong.

"I have been playing this well since I was 17 but now I am showing it on the match table. That's four venues I have got to this season, and this one will be very exciting."

Thailand's Poomjaeng is the oldest of the debutants, with the 34-year-old disposing of Jamie Cope 10-3 to book his sport.

Leicester potter Ben Woollaston, 29, had the tightest final qualifier but just edged out experienced Welshman Ryan Day 10-9 to seal his spot.

Michael Holt and Marco Fu also booked returns to Sheffield with wins over Mark Joyce and David Gilbert respectively.

The final 10 qualification places will be decided on Sunday with former winners Ken Doherty and Peter Ebdon as well as six time finalist Jimmy White among those fighting to secure a sport.
