Mark Selby through to second round of European Masters with impressive win

World champion Mark Selby chalked up four century breaks as he secured his place in the second round of the European Masters with a 4-1 win over China's Zhao Xintong in Lommel, Belgium.

Selby, who missed the start of the new season with a broken toe and suffered a shock first-round exit at the Yushan World Open, had opened with clearances of 120, 116 and 127 to take control and then wrapped things up with a run of 131.
Earlier, top seed Judd Trump, looking to successful defend his ranking title, coasted through following a 4-1 win over Adam Duffy while Scotland's John Higgins swept past Swiss Alexander Ursenbacher 4-0, which included a break of 131.

Also safely into the second round are Welshman Mark Williams, the two-time world champion, who beat Yan Bingtao of China 4-1, and Stuart Bingham, the number seven seed seeing off Mitchell Mann 4-2 while Anthony McGill edged out Northern Ireland's Joe Swail 4-3.

Elsewhere in Tuesday's evening session, Mark Allen hit the highest break of the tournament so far with a clearance of 145 as he came from 3-1 down to beat Iranian Hossein Vafaei, but world number 17 Ryan Day went out following a 4-2 defeat to Peter Lines.
