Figueiredo recorded an 88 break in the first frame on his way to a 3-0 victory over Gilbert.
The Gloucester-based Brazilian faces twice world champion Mark Williams in the first round of the tournament proper in Scotland in September.
Former world number eight Darren Morgan beat China’s Xiao Guodong 3-2 to also qualify.
Morgan enjoyed runs of 98 and 65 in taking a 2-1 lead, only to be pegged level by a Guodong 58 run in the fourth frame.
However the IBSF World Masters champion produced a 63 break in the decider and will next play fellow Welshman Matthew Stevens.
Another veteran James Wattana qualified, beating Scot Craig Macgilvary 3-0.
The only century of the day's play came courtesy of Ireland’s David Morris, whose 101 helped him defeat Robert Milkins 3-1.
