John Higgins has been installed as captain of the European team for the 110sport.com Euro-Asia Masters Challenge. But the 'Wizard of Wishaw' said he was surprised at the appointment as there are even better team leaders amongst the Euro quartet.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, which begins in Hong Kong on Thursday, Higgins said: "I'm looking forward to it although to be honest, I think there are guys in the team who have more experience than me.
"When I was told the news my first reaction was 'why me', but it is as a mark of what I achieved last season and my current standing in the game which is great.
"Ken Doherty has led Ireland before, and Ronnie O'Sullivan has experience with England, but I couldn't believe I got the job ahead of Stephen Hendry.
"I mean, when it comes to team snooker, Hendry is the man. He led Scotland to the last Nations Cup and was captain when we won the World Cup in Thailand in 1996. So there is a lot to live up to."
Higgins, Hendry, O'Sullivan and Doherty - who between then have amassed a dozen world titles - face Asia's best in the form of Ding Junhui, Marco Fu, James Wattana and reigning Asian champion Supoj Saenla.
