Lee found guilty of match-fixing

The 38-year-old could face a lifetime ban and will find out the his punishment on September 24.

The former world number five denied the allegations relating to the seven matches played between 2008 and 2009.

The charges involved a match at the 2009 World Championship, three from the 2008 Malta Cup, two matches at the 2008 UK Championship and a further match at the 2009 China Open.

The charge against Lee was described by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association as providing information "that is not publicly available" and deliberately influencing "the outcome or conduct of a fame."

Following the verdict the WPBSA released a statement which read: "Stephen Lee is found guilty of 'agreeing an arrangement... (and of) ...accepting or receiving or offering to receive... payment or... other... benefit... in connection with influencing the outcome or conduct of' each of the seven matches in breach of Rule 2.9."

World number three Judd Trump, who spoke before Lee's verdict, believes that any player found of such an offence should be banned for life.

He said: "If anybody is found guilty, they should be chucked out of the game.

"There's no time for it in any sport. It is ruining the game. It's going to push away sponsors and money coming into the game. People are going to look at it differently so anybody found guilty should be punished with a lifetime ban."
