Stephen Maguire ended a trophy drought of nearly four years by beating Joe Perry 4-2 in the PTC12 event in Munich, Germany.
The Scot, currently ranked 9 in the world, had looked in irresistible form as he opened a 2-0 lead against Perry thanks to breaks of 105 and 77.
But the resilient Perry rallied, compiling a half-century of his own to pull a frame back before Maguire restored the advantage with a 93.
Perry again struck back, but Maguire’s 62 in frame six saw him over the finishing line and to his first piece of silverware since the 2008 China Open in Beijing.
"I played really well in the final, that was the best match I played in the event and it's nice to do that in the final," said Maguire, who had had to earlier battle his way past fellow Scot Stephen Hendry 4-3 in the semi-finals.
"I didn't practise at all over Christmas so I didn't expect much coming here, but maybe that's the secret.
"To win any tournament these days is a good achievement and it gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season. I'm really looking forward to the Masters next week and hoping I can get a run going."
Perry had earlier swept past Martin Gould 4-0 in the other semi-final.
Maguire will be amongst the top 24 players on the PTC series Order of Merit after the 12 events will now contest the Grand Final at the Bailey Allen Hall in Galway, Ireland, in March.
The full-line up will be confirmed on Monday.
