General: There are not many teenagers who can say that they have played at the Crucible but Ross Muir did just that earlier this year when despite only being 13. He took on veteran Tony Knowles in the final of World Snooker's inaugural Super 6s contest. Muir was given the honour of playing in the match after having won the Junior Pot Black competition and was then unlucky to lose the one-frame contest with Knowles when his opponent fluked the brown on his way to clearing the colours. Muir has been steadily going about his business on the Scottish youth circuit in the last couple of years. He won the U14 title last season and is currently the top ranked U16 player in the country.

Strengths: A strong natural potter, Muir also showed in his match against Knowles, which was broadcast by the BBC, some intelligent safety play. He could easily have won the match with a better run of the balls. He seems to have good control of the cue ball and is able to work out complex shots. The fact that he won the Junior Pot Black and then performed admirably on the big stage proves he has an appetite for the top level.

Weaknesses: He is still very young so there will be plenty of pitfalls to be avoided before he reaches the top level but the natural ability seems to be there.

Is from Musselburgh and his home club is the Angel Club in Edinburgh.

His highest break in a competitive match is 117 but he has had a 142 in practice.

Has played against former Canadian professionals Cliff Thorburn and Kirk Stevens.
