Ronnie O'Sullivan has won five major tournaments in a season for the second time in his 32-year career by claiming the World Masters in Riyadh, but the world No. 1 has also set a new landmark total for prize money after earning £250,000 from his trip to Saudi Arabia. With three events still to play, O'Sullivan has gone beyond the £1m mark in a memorable campaign of title-winning consistency.

Ronnie O'Sullivan has won five tournaments this season, but has also collected a record amount of prize money in the 2023/24 campaign with the prospect of adding to that haul over the next three months.

The world No. 1 became the first player to lift a tournament in Saudi Arabia by winning the World Masters in Riyadh on Wednesday with a 5-2 final victory over world champion Luca Brecel.

He earned £250,000 for his efforts in claiming a fifth title to go with victories at the Shanghai Masters, UK Championship, Masters and World Grand Prix.

In the most fruitful season of his 32-year career, O'Sullivan has gone over the £1m mark for the first time in a season – so far earning a whopping £1,141,500 from 11 tournaments – with the World Open, Tour Championship and World Championship providing further earning opportunities.

He has managed the feat despite opting out of several events in missing the European Masters, British Open, Northern Ireland Open, Shoot Out, Scottish Open, Welsh Open and German Masters.

Judd Trump had held the previous record of £1,093,900 in the 2018/19 season when he carried off the Northern Ireland Open, Masters, World Grand Prix and World Championship.

O'Sullivan collected his previous best of £922,000 in the same season when he also claimed five tournaments at the Shanghai Masters, Champion of Champions, UK Championship, Players Championship and Tour Championship.

The seven-time world champion is due to return to action at the World Open in Yushan on Tuesday, March 19 when he faces Michael White at 11:30am UK time for a place in the last 32.
